About Maura
I am a 28 year old young professional with an enthusiasm and love for teaching. Both of my parents are teachers and I knew early on that I wanted to be a teacher someday. I have a bachelor's degree from Adams State University and a master's degree from the University of British Columbia. While I was studying at UBC, I also was an Assistant Teacher, teaching 3 classes per week and holding 2 office hours each week for private one on one tutoring. I also have experience working at the elementary level, volunteering on multiple occasions at Lansing Elementary. I love working with students on new skills and creating an environment where students learn to love to learn.

My teaching style is very interactive with students actively participating and guiding personalized lessons. I focus on real-life, applicable lessons, taking time to understand what are each students strengths and weaknesses are and structuring a lesson that is appropriate and effective. A typical lesson plan would include vocabulary review and introduction, a lesson overview, and lots of back and forth oral communication to help students listen and communicate that day's english goal. I am available to teach basic english all the way to advanced english, with age ranges from preschool to adults.
