I am meticulous in understanding my students' particular academic needs and much of this is done through close discussion which is possible to have in 1 to 1 classes. Often learners have lost or never had confidence in a particular topic/text/idea and a well-focused, applied approach can work wonders quite quickly.
Pupils leave my classes with clear takeaways, ideas to think through/write on and more confident in their ability to tackle these on their own. Consolidation particularly of tricky material is checked and reinforced in the next lesson so that a clear, structured approach is established and learning becomes rewarding rather than intimidating.
My students will usually complete at least one major task each week, such as an essay or a research topic to be presented in the next class.
My classes are usually one hour in length, but this can be negotiated. The first class is always one hour.
I am a highly experienced teacher and tutor, having worked in several schools over 30 years. In my last school I was the head of the English department for 18 years. I have also served twice as an A level examiner in Shakespeare and Drama, but I am very versatile and am familiar with many authors and their works from 1300 - present day. My knowledge and experience mean that my students can be assured that I know by heart what they need to study and achieve.
I can offer English Literature and Language lessons from 13+ to GCSE, and English Literature also to A level.
I will never expect a learner to turn up knowing everything - otherwise why do they need tuition? But I will expect your commitment and dedication to be evident from the start. This will include the completion of homework tasks.
Usually I teach only 6 - 8 pupils per week so that I can especially concentrate on their specific needs. Lessons are usually taught online but face to face meetings can be arranged if distances between us allow.
