About Kimberley
My name is Kimberley and I am a first year undergraduate student studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Hertford College, Oxford University.
I studied Economics, Maths, Politics and German for A level and achieved 4A*s. I studied A Level Economics independently but took the exams in school.
I am really enjoying my degree so far - it is challenging me and making me do 'brain acrobatics' (as I like to call it) in ways I did not know possible. PPE is not 'professional waffling', I can assure you!
Schools try and give helpful advice for Oxbridge applicants, but what you really need is subject-specific tailored advice from someone who's been though it all. Tutors are looking for a very specific skill set which includes agility of thought (easily being able to switch from one 'mode' to another), maths ability, open mindedness and the ability to challenge existing beliefs you have, and critical and logical thinking. You cannot waffle in PPE. Tutors will smell it instantly - you need to be logical, precise, and considered.
This might all sound intense - despite all this, IT IS OKAY TO BE WRONG! Being wrong, realising you are wrong, and amending your thoughts to the best of your ability is what PPE is all about. Tutors will not hold this against you.
Again despite how serious this must all sound I can assure you I am not some desk-bound super super studious perfect undergraduate. Most of we PPEists all procrastinate (a LOT), complain about our reading lists, do all nighters for our essays because we didn't want to miss a fun event, party a lot and are generally having a great time. We are all human I promise :)
But I would love to pass on strategic wisdom - it helped me out so much during my application and I would love to do the same for anyone who could use it.

I am an Oxford first year undergraduate student studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Hertford College. During my application process, I was fortunate enough to receive advice from undergraduate students at the time as to how to best strategically approach applying to Oxford. I have gained many insights about the various parts of the application, including Interview practice, strategic TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) preparation and the Personal Statement (though this will be changed starting in 2025, the skills can be transferred.) These bits of strategic advice were invaluable and massively helped me with my application. This together with the huge amount I have learned in my degree so far will equip me to help anyone looking to apply for Oxford PPE or any subject which requires the TSA.
In 2023, I received offers from the following universities:
Oxford University (PPE)
London School of Economics (Economics and Politics)
University College London (PPE)
Durham University (Economics and Politics)
University of Bath (Economics and Politics)
Bocconi University, Milan (International Economics and Finance)
I'm a UK student who did not go to private school. Oxford needs to be approached strategically. But at the end of the day, it is a lottery. I just hope to help increase your odds!
Whichever element of the application you would like to focus on, we can work on together. The three-question replacement of the Personal Statement is what I will be the least familiar with - but Oxford generally puts much less weight on your Personal Statement than other elements of your application.

Perfect! I'm so pleased with how Kimberley has engaged my son in his online lessons with her. He'd fallen behind in his German class at school and lost interest. Having 1:1 tutoring with Kimberley has given him new found confidence and motivation to learn, she has a very positive and encouraging approach to teaching and I recommend her highly.

Kimberley is an excellent student and a super linguist. She gets along well with younger years and would make a brilliant tutor!
