About Joe
My teaching career started as a music-based youth worker in my early twenties, and since then I have taught in a variety of settings, up to and including co-founding and running a university course in a practice-based media production subject.
In my late twenties I took a design and project-management job in a small game studio, and since then I have worked on mobile games for clients including Adult Swim, Turner Broadcasting and Mediatonic games, as well as a Roblox experience for the K-Pop band BLACKPINK, and even a Fortnite level for Spotify in 2023!
I am also a passionate lover of music, and have worked as an events organiser and cabaret performer.
I have an academic background in digital media research, and teaching adults game development, as well as theory from media and cultural studies.
I have a lot of experience of working with adults with Autism and ADHD - and have both diagnoses myself.
I am *not* a technical instructor and although I have professional experience in music production, game design and video production, I will not give lessons focussed on specific software or techniques. My role here is as a creative coach, to help you to accelerate in whatever self-tuition you are already doing - or to help you to turn your hobby into a business.

Your session with me is a regular space to talk through what you're currently working on, any issues you may be facing as a creative, and to receive coaching and advice. Areas covered could include:
- a project you are working on for your portfolio.
- an area of relevant theory or practice you are struggling to understand.
- a soft skill you want to develop (e.g. reflection, research, networking, collaboration etc.)
- general academic skills like analysis and technical writing.
- help with jobhunting, applications, and interviews.
- help with personal branding and social media.
These sessions are coaching - not teaching - and will depend on you to determine and negotiate what you want to get out of them.

Joe has imagination and flair, with a real ability to draw out ideas and turn them into something concrete. Not all my colleagues would have been up for designing a life-sized game board called 'Save Kent From Dracula'. But offering to talk us all through it in a village church - armed only with a box of plastic bats - took immersive teaching to a whole new level. Our rector still talks about it. Tutored by Joe for a year or two, and couldn't recommend more. He's up there with the best tutors I've ever had , doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't understand something. Can take a concept into a abstract view if it helps you see what , how or why it is. Likes to have a laugh and joke but does stay on track and teach you at the same time ,little bit quirky and just great. Couldn't recommend enough
Having been taught by Joe I can confidently say that his number one priority when teaching is your wellbeing and goals.
He is always willing to discuss any issues that you may be dealing with, meaning you don’t have to worry about your concerns not being heard.
