• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  Languages have always fascinated me. Growing up in a home where multiple languages danced off the walls filled me with a fascination for the diverse ways we, as humans, communicate. During my high school years, I enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) course. The skill with which my teacher guided her students to grasp English was truly inspiring. It was then that I realized my passion was not just in learning languages, but also teaching them. I decided to follow this passion into my college years, choosing English education as my major.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  What drives me as a teacher is the heartfelt desire to help others unlock their potential through language. I hold a deep conviction that every person should have the chance to grasp English, like holding a universal key to communication. What I yearn for, more than anything, is to touch lives, to help people reach their dreams through the power of language. I relish the puzzle of breaking down language barriers - it's not just a task, but a rewarding journey that fills my heart with joy.

• How does your work help society?

  The essence of my work is to serve as a bridge, connecting people to education and expanding their horizons. English, being the common tongue of our global village, is the key to this connection. As I help individuals master this language, I am also opening doors for them to become active contributors in our world community. More than just a language teacher, I see myself as an artisan of cultural understanding and tolerance, chiselling away at the barriers that divide us. Each word learned, each sentence formed, is another step towards a more interconnected and empathetic world.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  When it comes to the guiding light in my teaching journey, Stephen Krashen's name immediately springs to mind. A renowned linguist, Krashen crafted a theory of second language acquisition that underlines the power of understandable language input, a principle that deeply resonates with me. I see Krashen's work as ripples on the vast lake of English language teaching, creating a profound impact. I'm not just a fan, but a beneficiary of his wisdom, and for that, my gratitude knows no bounds.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my family. I am also a big fan of movies and TV shows.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  There's a special story from my teaching experience that I often love to share. It involves a wonderfully shy woman from one of my IELTS prep classes. Born and raised in India, she carried a strong accent that made her feel quite self-conscious, fueling her anxiety about her chances on the IELTS test. Together, we embarked on a journey of refining her pronunciation skills, slowly but surely transforming her self-doubt into a newfound confidence in her spoken English. And then came the day of the test - she soared, achieving a score that reflected her hard work and determination. This wasn't just a score; it was the key to her dream of studying abroad. Her success, her transformation, remains a cherished chapter in my professional life.
