About Vannie
Individual and collective Exhibitions, biennales, private collections and auction-experienced artist and researcher is with an open agenda for new students in Montréal (2025-2026). I have had my own studio for years now, traveling the world with my craft. I hold a Bachelor's degree with honors in visual arts, a Master's degree in interdisciplinary field of social sciences, arts and ecology, and am currently pursuing a PhD also in interdisciplinary field (futurism and semioptics). I have written books and articles about various visual art fields, including creative processes, techniques, and art history. I don't teach students to do hyperrealism or simple copies because the goal is to develop your own technique through a solid approach following principles and, yes, traditional techniques as well, from chemistry to philosophy, for you to reach mastery. On the ''just another person'' side: non-binary in their late 20s, and I obviously have a cat. Yes, dad of a cute 10-year-old little cat called Carina that travels with me and, while I'm painting, he sits on my side at the same chair just because he wants to! I'm also vegetarian and my favorite color are all despite yellow (maybe Indian yellow hue might pass).

As a specialist and recognized artist of visual art, my main fields are in oil painting, watercolor and pigments in painting field. In drawing, pastels, charcoals, ink and pencils. I also give classes on installations and other advanced contemporary art topics. I offer the following formats for classes: 1 = The advised is to have 1 to 2 classes a week, varying from 60 minutes to 120 minutes. 90 minutes is a nice set, usually. - Painting classes only: 50$/hour or 60$ 90 minutes (90$ 2 hours or 2x a week) - Painting + Drawing classes: 60 $/hour or 70$ 90 minutes. - Painting + Assemblage or Installation classes: 60$/hour (indicated for professionals or art students only) or 100$ 2 classes a week. - Scientific Illustration with watercolor: 40$/hour or 50$ 90 minutes. - Conservation and Restoration classes for paintings and indoor decorations: 70 $ / hour or 80$ 90 minutes. (10 classes the full course or ongoing for projects). Every course is built after a meeting to set the goals and to know you better as a student. I'm always adapting and changing the plan according to the needs you might show. Despite the in-home or online classes, we will have a .doc shared file to document the important techniques, thoughts, references and so on. The ''intensity'' of the classes will vary according to: your goal and your availability. Also, it depends from people to people, what will be the start point, what will be the problems to dismantle, etc etc. Patience if you have the time! :) I do have the time and patience. Specific tracks (optional) = figurative art such as portraits, landscape, still nature; developing own creative process; intensive for pre-art schools; scientific illustration (flora and fauna); pigment track; contemporary art; conservation, history and restoration (for painting, panels and decorative indoor only) Materials must be provided by the student, although I help out with basic lists. I don't teach kids below 16 years-old and I recommend students taking my classes after 19 years-old ''even the bright ones''. My methodology covers theory and applied concepts. I've mastered all the techniques I teach for years, that's why I also research them. Meaning that I do prefer students that are very engaged with arts, but also wanting to have a deep learning in the field. I do teach for people looking for a hobby, but I usually pick students based on their goals and their passion. If you're not a disciplined person or if you don't have patience with yourself, my classes might feel quite overwhelming. but I promise I'm fun and very caring even with all these considerations. Students usually ''don't want another professor'' after taking classes with me not only because you'll have a professional artist as professor but because we always end up creating a nice dynamics as people as well. Moreover, my experience as a professor comes from the university. I'm used to one-a-one but also small group classes, but, my priority is also my own craft, and teaching is one of the other things I do with love and true commitment. That said, I just pick new students from time to time.

Details
Prices may vary as shared on the class format session. 50 $ is the ''only painting'' track. You may choose between painting + drawing, painting + assemblage, scientific illustration, painting + installation or just installation. The technique doesn't change the price, what changes is the language/field only. I give discounts for multiple classes a week or 90minutes / 120 minutes formats. The transportation fee is included on the prices. Online classes are possible but I recommend in-person classes if possible for you, even if once a week you'd prefer to have classes online and the second class in person. So hybrid is an option as well. Themes and preferred techniques also doesn't change the price but scientific illustration is, indeed. I accept Interact and cash with monthly payments for monthly plans or per classes. Other important information: cancellations or reschedules must be communicated at least 12 hours prior to the class. For monthly plans, reschedules have no limit of when they are going to be made but the tolerance of cancellations is 4x per month with the exception of planned travels / holidays.
