About Joshua
Hi there, I'm Josh. Half Italian and half Welsh, I'm bilingual since childhood. Passionate about language and culture, I have extensive international experience - having been born and raised in Florence, but having lived in Germany, France, Turkey, and Scotland. I graduated in history, politics, and languages (Persian) from the University of Edinburgh.
I can count on a international teaching experience, at a language academy based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, where I had the pleasure of teaching English and Italian to a variety of students - of all ages (from 5 years to over 50) and levels of competence (A1-C2) - in group, individual, and conversation classes.

Every student has different needs, motivations, and ways of thinking. Each student deserves an approach to studies that validate his characteristics and make the most of his/her potential. Book a lesson, let us get to know each other, and come up with a roadmap for your studies. I am at your service.
Full immersion - beyond doubt, the best way to learn a language like Italian is to have the courage and ability to immerse yourself completely. You've taken the first step - you're here, aren't you? Now take that extra step and make yourself part of the discussion - learn to fully understand, and speak the language that surrounds you. In our lessons, we'll be relying on your Italian skills. After all, no one ever learned to ride a bike with the training wheels on.
The 4 aspects - reading, listening, writing and speaking. Tell me what is your strong point, and your weak point; which is your priority, and which of less importance. In any case, we will practice them all - given that they do complement each other beautifully - but with special attention to those that will serve you best, or interest you more.
Multimedia - to be able to address all the 4 aspects of the language and your way of learning (are you a visual learner? do you remember words in songs better than phrases in books? do you find it hard to tackle pronunciation?), we will use multimedia strategies to make you learn in a practical and efficient way, while making you feel at ease. The materials we will deal with will include authentic materials of all kinds - books & poetry (some Dante, anyone?) poems, films & TV series, songs, maps, flyers & advertisements, etc. The material is all around us - let's pick and choose it, and go over it together.
Relax - all this said, you learn only when you do it willingly. We will carry out our lessons together as friends, always dedicated to the purpose of learning, sure, but in a laid-back, easygoing atmosphere.
