About Sydney
I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011 with a B.A. in Political Science. After graduation, I pursued public policy research as a German Academic Exchange (DAAD) Scholar and Transatlantic Fellow in Berlin, before completing a dual-degree master's in Urban Policy at the Paris Institute for Political Studies and the London School of Economics. My background in social, racial, and eco-justice policy-based work laid a foundational bedrock for my creative interests. I started my PhD in Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania but realized that storytelling through film and television was more effective in sharing stories and connecting people across continents, cultures, and time. Since then, I have worked as a producer on Legendary (HBOMax) and as a TV writer. A voracious traveler, I am fluent in French and proficient in German. I am currently finishing up my first book, Undeniable: A History of Voguing, Ballroom, and How It Changed My Life and The World (Crown/Sugar23), a memoir/history hybrid story of my transition and the history of ballroom culture and voguing. When I am not tutoring, voguing, or working on a TV show, you can find me trying out a new recipe, boxing (a sport I used to teach in Berlin), or DJing (a hobby I picked up in East London). I tutor the SAT, ACT, AP Exams in Biology, English, European History, French, and US History, and academic French, Math, Science, and writing.
