About Gesse
I have been a university professor for more than 20 years. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, master’s degrees in Anthropology and Law, and a Ph.D. in Sociology.
I am the author of several academic publications and have extensive experience teaching research methodology and academic writing.
Over the years, I have supervised and advised research projects in a wide range of fields, including Law, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Medicine, and Engineering.
My role is to help students develop the structure, logic, and clarity of their research and writing. I guide every stage of the process—from defining the research question and organising ideas to developing arguments and improving the final text.
I do not write papers or theses for students. Instead, I help them become better researchers and writers by providing constructive feedback, asking the right questions, and offering methodological guidance.
As I like to say, I don’t build the clock—I simply wind it up so it can keep running. In other words, my goal is to help you develop your own ideas and produce work that is genuinely yours, while giving you the tools and confidence to succeed independently.

My teaching approach is always tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals.
In general, I carefully read and review the student’s text, making corrections and suggestions. During our next lesson, we discuss both the strengths and the areas for improvement. Together, we analyse grammar, vocabulary, style, and clarity, while also working on pronunciation and spoken Portuguese whenever appropriate. This process helps students improve not only their writing but also their overall communication skills.
I have more than 20 years of teaching experience. My lessons are designed primarily for adults, especially graduate students, researchers, academics, and business professionals who need to use Portuguese confidently in academic or professional settings.
