About Subhankar

As an experienced guitarist about 10+ years, my mission is to help every student achieve their musical goals with confidence and enjoyment. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of students, from complete beginners to more advanced players, and I understand that every learner is unique. This is why I create personalized lesson plans that fit to individual needs, ensuring that each student progresses at a pace that is comfortable and motivating for them.

What sets me apart is my deep knowledge of both the technical and creative aspects of guitar playing. With a solid foundation in music theory, performance, and improvisation, I offer students not only the ability to play guitar but to understand the music they are creating. I emphasize real-world application, helping students play the songs they love while developing skills that will last a lifetime.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in professionalism and dedication. I value punctuality, preparation, and a clear communication of goals, both short-term and long-term. My students know that I am committed to their success, offering encouragement and guidance at every step of their musical journey. Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to refine your advanced skills, you can trust that you’ll receive focused, high-quality instruction.

By choosing me as your guitar teacher, you’re not only gaining a mentor but also a partner in your musical development. As an experienced guitarist and teacher, my approach focuses on a balance between technical skills, creativity, and personalized learning. Here’s how I typically structure my lessons and methods:

Teaching Techniques and Methods:

1. Student-Centered Approach: I always start by understanding each student’s goals, interests, and current skill level. Whether they want to learn classical, blues, or rock guitar, I tailor my teaching to suit their musical taste.

2. Fundamentals First: I emphasize strong foundations in technique (like proper finger placement, picking, and strumming) and music theory (scales, chords, progressions) early on. This helps students understand how music works, not just how to play songs.

3. Application through Songs: I incorporate real music from the beginning. Students learn scales and theory by playing riffs or pieces from their favorite songs, which makes the process fun and relevant.

4. Improvisation and Creativity: Once the basics are covered, I encourage improvisation. This could involve jamming over a backing track or experimenting with chord progressions. I teach how to make creative choices, not just follow patterns.

5. Rhythm and Timing: Using metronomes and backing tracks, I help students develop a strong sense of timing. Good rhythm is crucial in any genre, and I emphasize this through rhythm exercises and syncopation studies.

6. Ear Training and Transcription: I encourage students to listen carefully and try to play songs by ear. This develops aural skills and deepens their connection to the music. We also analyze solos or sections by ear, which improves musical intuition.

Class Structure:

1. Warm-Up (5-10 minutes): Simple finger exercises, scales, or chord transitions to get the hands and mind ready.

2. Technique Focus (15-20 minutes): I might focus on improving a specific skill, such as alternate picking, barre chords, or fingerstyle technique.

3. Theory and Application (15-20 minutes): Here, we connect theory (scales, modes, harmony) with real music. Students learn not just the "what" but also the "why" behind the notes and chords.

4. Song Work/Creative Time (15-20 minutes): Students work on a piece they're learning or start composing/arranging. This is where personal taste comes in—I guide them on how to perform, arrange, or improvise around the song.

5. Wrap-Up/Review (5 minutes): We summarize what was learned, discuss practice goals, and address any questions.

Special Features as a Teacher:

1. Personalization: I adapt my lessons to each student’s style and preferences, blending genres or techniques that interest them most.

2. Holistic Musicianship: I emphasize more than just playing skills; I aim to develop musicians who understand theory, can improvise, and are creative in their playing.

3. Encouraging Exploration: I motivate students to explore different styles and techniques, whether it's playing jazz chords, fingerpicking folk tunes, or using effects pedals in rock.

4. Fostering Confidence: Whether students are performing for others or simply playing for their own enjoyment, I build their confidence to express themselves through their instrument.

By combining technique, theory, and creativity, I aim to guide students toward becoming well-rounded guitarists who enjoy their musical journey.
