Tabla is not merely an instrument to be played; it is a language of rhythm.

My teaching focuses on helping students understand and internalize the fundamentals of Taal, Lay, Laya, Bol, Theka and Layakari, while developing the technique, repertoire and discipline required for serious Tabla learning.

The approach combines the traditional Guru–Shishya Parampara with a structured curriculum, personalized guidance and disciplined Riyaaz.

FOUR PILLARS OF TRAINING

1. Shastra — Knowledge
Understanding Taal, rhythm, theory, compositions and the language of Tabla.

2. Kriya — Technique
Developing posture, hand positioning, bol clarity, tone, coordination, speed and control.

3. Riyaaz — Practice
Building disciplined and effective daily practice through personalized Riyaaz plans.

4. Manch — Performance
Developing confidence, padhant, improvisation, accompaniment skills and musical expression.

FIVE LEVELS OF LEARNING

Prarambh — Foundation
Posture, hand positioning, basic dayan and bayan strokes, bols, sound production, finger exercises and coordination.

Aarambh — Elementary
Bol clarity, speed development, bayan control, finger independence, basic Kaida and Rela patterns, Tukra and Tihai.

Sadhana — Intermediate
Layakari, Barabar and Badi concepts, Dugun, Tigun and Chaugun, cross-rhythmic exercises, Taal recognition and improvisation.

Parampara — Advanced
Advanced Kaidas and Relas, Gats, Chakradars, Farmaishi Chakradars, advanced Tukras, Paran, Peshkar and complex Tihais.

Manch — Performance & Artistry
Tabla solo presentation, accompaniment, improvisation, Padhant, stage discipline, tempo management and musical communication.

PERSONALIZED RIYAAZ

Every student receives a structured Riyaaz plan according to their level and goals.

Beginner: 20–30 minutes/day
Intermediate: 45–60 minutes/day
Advanced: 60–120+ minutes/day

CERTIFICATION & EXAM PREPARATION

For students interested in pursuing formal examinations and certification, I have academic tie-ups with Chandigarh University and Bengal Music School. Students can be guided and prepared for relevant examinations alongside their regular classical Tabla training.

The objective is not simply to teach students how to play compositions, but to develop a deep understanding of rhythm, disciplined practice, technical excellence and a lifelong connection with the art of Tabla.
