About Mauro otilio
I'm Mauro Corona, a dedicated percussionist from Puebla, Mexico. I take great pride in being a graduate with honors from the College of Staten Island. Currently, I impart my knowledge as a music educator and drum instructor in Staten Island, both privately and in a local music school. My musical pursuits have led me through a diverse range of genres, from classical to Latin jazz. I've been fortunate to perform with distinguished ensembles such as BUAP's percussion group and Oro Iña, and have even had the pleasure of collaborating with the renowned DCINY orchestra. I am deeply devoted to helping students form a profound connection with music. In my teaching, I strive to blend technical instruction with creative expression, creating a learning experience that is not only informative but also enjoyable.

The classes are tailored to each student's individual goals and preferences. Whether you're a complete beginner or an intermediate player, I’ll ensure that lessons are customized to fit your musical ambitions. Students will have the opportunity to learn music notation, ear training, as well as various coordination and technique exercises.
My Teaching Approach:
I strongly believe that one of the most important things when learning a musical instrument is being able to play and create music right away. That’s why there’s a special focus on songs students want to play. We focus on building a solid drumming foundation, but I make sure that from day one, students are making music and enjoying the process.
Besides exercises to develop technique and improve on the instrument, we’ll work on ear skills so students can learn music not just by reading but also by listening. I create a supportive and engaging environment where mistakes are part of learning, and creativity is encouraged.
Lesson Structure:
Each lesson is flexible but typically includes:
* Warm-ups and coordination exercises.
* Drum rudiments and stick control practice.
* A focus on your favorite songs or styles.
* Improvisation practice, developing musical intuition.
