About Oliver

Design and art is my life's passion. After graduating in 2018 from UNSW with Honors in Interior Architecture I have been both convening and tutoring across a diverse range of courses, where I have grown a passion for educating. In completing my post-graduate study in architecture at YACademy in Bologna, Italy, I have collaborated with architects from all across the world including some of the world's biggest firms like BIG and AMDL Circle. My discography of design work includes a 1st-place-award-winning treehouse park, a tranquil yoga house, an island redevelopment, a serene seaside lookout, a cultural center for women, and a powerful ocean-memorial, among others. In my art discourse I delve into the digital realm, exploring the essence of digital objects, spaces and landscapes through a tech-heavy process of generative 3D modeling algorithms. I have recently exhibited my first collection containing thousands of pieces, in Italy. I look forward to sharing more of my experiences with you as we learn together!

Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?
I grew up in the 90s and early 2000s so my earliest memories of using a computer are playing pinball and minesweeper while I listened to the sound of the dial-up internet, of course! All jokes aside, I began picking up various computer skills from a very young age which I am so grateful for today.
What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?
I guess it has to be artificial intelligence, namely generative AI. The more I think about its potential impact on creative fields such as art and design, the more I am intrigued and compelled to both challenge it and embrace it. It is exciting to think about how we will approach our day-to-day working processes in the near future.
Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.
My expertise spans from art to architecture, in which I rely on computer power through their respective processes for ideating, testing, perfecting and communicating my work. The importance of this in the computer world lies in its role in driving innovation in software associated with these processes. There are numerous technological developments in the computer space aimed at facilitating
and, in return, pushing the boundaries of what we can create through art and design.
Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?
The work of those people has undeniable importance in our world however, beyond their visionary thinking and drive to
realise their respective visions, I don’t feel necessarily inspired by them as people. I find it more beneficial to admire and draw inspiration from people’s work rather than from them personally.
What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?
Anyone who is a master of their craft started in the exact same position, experiencing the same feelings of discomfort. This is especially true when it comes to mastering skills with computer programs; no one is born with that talent - it is acquired! The limitation in how well one can learn these skills is often one's own self-belief.
What are your other passions, related or nonrelated to computers?
I’m really passionate about travelling! I love to go new places and learn about people and history. It is something I
try to prioritise in my life when possible. Additionally, I have a deep love for music, particularly rap, tech-house, and indie genres. And, I love football (die hard Manchester United fan).
