About Sam
I'm Sam. I've studied literature and philosophy and the arts at a Masters level from the University of Sussex and am currently writing a research proposal. During this interim period, I thought about teaching as a means to retain that classroom environment, but with the added caveat of me being the tutor this time. I also want to apply my own pedagogical philosophy to tutoring so there's that; I also want to teach abroad after my PhD, so this is all going towards some ultimate goal, probably.

Tutoring for me involves an equal exchange between the tutor and the student. I try to focus on the student's strengths and apply that framework to their weaknesses, slowly ushering in the confidence they require to overcome ostensible problems in their work. Moreover, I believe efficient tutoring comes when both tutor and student solve problems together, in contrast to the tutor dishing out answers for the student to absorb. Efficient learning comes through interpersonal dialogue, which is as important in private tutoring as it is in the classroom or seminar.
