About Lucas
I help students to understand the concepts instead of just memorizing facts and formulas.
I chose to pursue a Bachelor's in Mathematics at UC Davis because I am truly passionate about math. I do not view math as boring and tedious, though I certainly view most of the math curriculum from high school that way! I don't believe it has to be a dull subject, though. Now that I have obtained my degree, I wish to share this passion with others and show how the subject really is interesting.
I usually find it easier to understand the sequence of steps that goes into deriving a formula rather than to memorize the formula. I think memorizing facts without understanding why they are true nor what their applications are is doing the student a disservice. This is how I conduct my tutoring as well.
My passion for math is just getting started. I will soon start a Master's program in pure math. My recently completed senior thesis "The Habiro ring and quantum sl_2 knot invariants" allowed me to graduate with highest honors in June 2026. I strive to impart a little of this passion onto each my students.
I can also provide tutoring for the SAT, ACT, or GRE quantitative exams upon request.

I help by going over homework and studying for tests, with an emphasis on understanding rather than memorization. I mostly work with high school students and undergraduates, though I also work with middle schoolers and graduate students in other disciplines (besides mathematics) that need to sharpen their skills. I am very familiar with all of the grade school math curriculum such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. I am also well-equipped to tutor on the undergraduate curriculum including (vector) calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, real analysis, numerical analysis, complex analysis, probability, abstract algebra, combinatorics, discrete mathematics, number theory, topology, optimization, differential geometry, and others. I have taken all of these classes at the University of California, Davis and earned a grade of A or A+ in all.
