About Jenny
I have experience as a Teaching Assistant at University of Notre Dame, from where I earned a Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering. This was the most difficult endeavor of my life, as I had to truly understand the value of professionalism, academic communication, and engagement with a variety of different people for collaboration of scientific work. I am very good at discerning why a student is struggling and how to adjust naturally from there in a way that makes the student feel understood. I would begin with some diagnostic work that would highlight the student's strengths and weaknesses, and speak with them about how it is they are learning and what mental processes are occurring. From there I will tailor lesson plans based on the learning style and gaps in the knowledge, and of course adjust it as time goes on.
The quality that sets me apart is that I have a psychological element to my pedagogy - the student must believe that they are capable of conceptualizing and understanding the material, and excelling at their goals to be able to succeed in the course, and building confidence without detracting from the rigor is important within the lesson. Simply force feeding students problems is not typically effective, as students want to be recognized for their effort and unique modes of cognition rather than the mere accolades.
I can tutor middle schoolers, high schoolers, and STEM undergraduates (but not computer science).
