As a medical student myself, I know how daunting biology can seem. This is the precise reason that my tutoring sessions are engaging, tailored to the student, and effective.
My approach is to create an environment that is conducive to learning, where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts. Rote learning is not a priority, understanding the concept is. Starting from the basics, then up slowly is important.
Some techniques I like to use to not only track progress but identify strengths and weaknesses are:
- Real-life scenarios
- Videos
- Practice papers
- Progress tracking (quizzes, mock exams)
- Reverse Teaching by student to ensure understanding ("blurting")
I provide 1-2 hour tutor sessions, at HSC levels.
