About Jack
I am a self-taught jazz pianist based in and around Wales. I have a strong foothold in jazz theory and harmony, as backed up by my A-level result: 'B'. I have been performing for the past 9 years in various concerts and events around my school and local competitions. I have experience abroad, in Australia, of different approaches to jazz and the inner workings of how a jazz band works together (having attended the Brisbane Jazz Club several times). I am also a keen jazz rhythm guitarist, with 5 years' experience. I am able to offer advice on related topics.

I am a high school graduate, and I am able to give lessons/advice to high school students, and aspiring university students. Each lesson will follow a similar pattern - Depending on the depth of your knowledge into jazz, I build upon what you already know, and strive to engage you with new ideas you may not know about yet. I am more than happy to help you with any burning questions you might have, as well as something you may be struggling with. Each lesson will start with something that I have prepared, followed by any questions you may have for me. You can expect the following to come up in my lessons:
-- 2-5-1's
-- Standard chord progressions
-- Tritone substitutions
-- Modes
-- Improvisation advice
-- The Blues
-- Tension/Release
-- Scales (Octatonic, Whole-Tone etc)
-- Building harmonically complicated chords
And much more. If at any point you feel overwhelmed, or surprised, let me know and I shall endeavour to explain it in a clearer way. I am here to help you learn.
