About Jacob

I have been playing music for 31 years. Bassoon, Saxophone, Clarinet and Bass Clarinet, Trombone, Trumpet, Piano, Accordion, Udderbot, Tin Whistle, Recorder, Ocarina, Musical Saw, and Basic Percussion. My current favorite instrument is the trumpet, even though I am not the best at it =)
I have played in a handful of rock bands, a number of school/concert bands, orchestras, and chamber ensembles. I have done extensive multi-track solo recording projects, and even done amateur audio engineering for myself and friends.
I have taught lessons and provided musical tuning technology consulting since 2008. I am also co-founder in 2011 of an untwelve music camp for adults which has blessed me with the opportunity to teach and learn from a growing network of hundreds of student music-makers.

I have a degree in music composition and play an ever-expanding collection of instruments. As my own work focuses on microtonality, I am to teach students with that interest, or at least a curious and open mind.
My "general musicianship" teaching approach builds from a core of aural skills, theory and (xen)harmony, sight-singing and sight-reading (or learning solely by ear if you prefer), and centers the creativity and desires of each student.
I also offer an introduction to making and playing an unusual instrument I had the fortune of inventing, the "udderbot". Look for me on YT and elsewhere! Let's share an enthusiasm of DIY organology and design together.
