About Carla
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Johannesburg, I major in psychology and I am studying to become a psychologist. Throughout high school, I often helped a lot of my peers who were not as fluent in Afrikaans as I am and when I was done helping them, they often told me I was better at explaining the work than the teacher. As a tutor, I am professional and always inspire the student to be confident in their work and to understand that making mistakes is a crucial part of the learning process. I have tutored primary school students so I am well equipped and able to manage and help these students.

To orientate the student, I will start with figuring out what learning style works best for them. I choose to work with the individual student and set the learning style to one they can process and understand instead of what simply 'works for everyone'. I am predominantly an Afrikaans tutor and I tutor Afrikaans as a second language. Typical lessons will consist of going over Afrikaans grammar and sentence structure (STOMPI, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, nouns, etc.) and doing activities like comprehensions, reading and understanding Afrikaans books, and listening activities. I will also provide the student with ways to practice and become fluent in Afrikaans by themselves by using techniques like flashcards for vocabulary and speaking to me about their day using the language and the vocabulary learned. My lessons are aimed at primary school students grades 5-7 who take Afrikaans as a second language.
