About Charlotte

24 years of tap experience.
Passed all BBO (British Ballet Organisation) grades with distinction.
Full marks in Advanced Inter-performance grades 1 & 2.
Competed in festivals for 11 years.
2015: 2nd place at the All England, Bloomsbury Theatre, London.
2018: National champion at the All England, Hackney Empire, London.

Tap is an incredible art form that I have found transformative, both through the act of learning and teaching. One of my biggest inspirations was my tap teacher Jurek Sroka, who taught me tap since the age of three. I grew in confidence the more I learnt, and through competing I built my own unique take on tap performance and what I wanted that to look like. I completed my last national competition in 2018 winning the All England Tap Dance Finals at Hackney Empire, London.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and I aim to pass on my unique style, passion & joy for this art form. If you've always wanted try tap dance - even if it's not with me - please GO FOR IT! It's like nothing else.

About the lesson

Wherever you're at in life, all you need in my lessons are a pair of taps, and a passion to learn. If you have these things, then I can't wait to dance with you!

Training lessons will be adapted to each student and what they're looking for. I am currently available to teach 1:1 during evenings & weekends. I teach all levels! I can also support audition routines/ create choreography etc. My lesson style changes student to student, there is no fixed path, as you are all unique and I will build our lessons around you.

My in person classes are typically conducted at a studio in Oval (Northern line, parking available too).

If you require an alternative studio, travel to your house or group bookings, please mention when you get in touch & we can discuss. Typically there is a fee for this which I always discuss with you ahead of confirming a booking. I also offer lessons in my home if preferred at no additional cost.

We will assess where you are at through an initial consultation over a call prior to your first lesson. An ideal way for us to discuss what you would like to gain from our sessions and answer any questions.

General overview: We will work together on the foundations of tap with thorough explanations on technique and approach throughout. We will build your confidence in technique through drills, choreography and variations. Tap is an excellent skill for working on muscle memory. You are welcome to film any of our sessions for you to practise outside. I will work and build on your rhythm, musicality, light & shade, memory, fitness, confidence and most importantly, your unique performance style. We will practise call and response ('having a conversation') and improvisation to music. I play with different choreographic styles for my students, exploring tap through tango, waltz, boogie woogie, lyrical, jazz and more. We can be inspired by music and different stimuli to figure out what you feel passionate about when dancing to ultimately build your own style.

Not to sound like Mary Poppins... but the aim is that I will not need to teach you forever. I will give you the tools and inspiration to continue on your own when the time's right. I hope to build a community of tap dancers so we may all dance together one day!
