About Andy
I have been speaking Chinese for 17 years and have a degree in Chinese from a university ranked 5th in the country for Chinese when I enrolled (UCLan). I graduated with a 2:1 (second best grade/B). I have since spent over a decade perfecting my Chinese and, although I'm not perfect, I'm genuinely extremely good at teaching beginners. I lived and worked in Beijing, China for a year, and gained a year-long diploma in Beijing Language and Culture University, where all lessons were taught in native level Chinese. I have interpreted and translated for the English FA (Football Association), the governing body of English football, when China sent coaches, chairmen and club managers to study English tactics and training methods in a bid for China to win The World Cup within 50 years. I was a freelance interpreter employed by Tranmere Rovers FC (the club hosting both parties) to represent The English FA in welcoming our Chinese counterparts. I am a member of The Institute of Translation and Interpreting at Associate level and have ten years translation experience. I taught Chinese officially in several primary and secondary schools for a year. I'm extremely outgoing and love to chat. As mentioned earlier, I love seeing students progress and will do my best to light that fire within you. I want you to have a great time and enjoy learning.

I mainly tutor beginners or those who know 800 characters or less. I will create lessons based on your ability, trying to make them as fun as possible whilst considering the age of the learner. I currently have 1 long-term student who has come on leaps and bounds since I started tutoring her. It would be no problem for you to speak to her or get a reference from her. We will work with character recognition, listening and speaking (very simple conversations or answering some simple questions) and typing Chinese. I will use vocabulary based at your level (usually based on HSK rankings) and your interests. Films and animals are my current student's interests, but this can be changed weekly. I am going into tutoring Chinese because I genuinely love it. It's great watching a student progress and I'll do all I can to get you on track.

Andy is an amazing teacher, he has infinite patience and is able to explain things in a way that is easy to understand. He is very flexible with his curriculum and is happy to work on specific issues that you want to learn, as well as using his own pathway if you have no idea where to start or how to learn.
