About Freddi
I am a registered speech therapist from Hong Kong, got 8 years of teaching experience in speech therapy, providing professional treatment to individuals with Cantonese oral/listening/reading/writing difficulties. After relocated to the UK, I transferred my skills in speech therapy into Cantonese/Traditional Chinese language teaching. I have met a lot of students with or without a Hong Kong heritage. Hence I am experienced in explaining the cultural side of Hong Kong alongside the teaching of Cantonese. Three keywords to describe my teaching style would be: 1) Visualisations: I use a lot of illustrations (from my favourite website irasutoya.com) 2) Student-centred: I tailor made personal scripts with my students (e.g. some students need a wedding speech, some is heading to Hong Kong to start their new journey) 3) Homework and quizzes: provided after each class to give you just the right amount of practice so that you remember the materials

I adopt a student-centred approach which means the lesson is personalised according to individual needs (e.g. daily communication, exam-oriented, etc) I am experienced in creating original teaching materials involving illustrations, original song and lyrics, as well as movement/dance to maximise students´ learning motivation. You can find my creative work at the following website: (concealed information) My classes for beginners are 80% formal in nature, meaning that you will be learning a number of set materials (sentence structures, scripts, vocab/phrases, daily sentences) designed by me to build your foundation. As you progress, depending on your Cantonese level, we can gradually shift into more informal, casual conversation to build up your Cantonese speaking fluency and listening comprehension. Homework, audio recordings, and quizzes are provided after each class to foster your revision.

Perfect! Freddie is always prepared, very informative and patient. The fact that she creates her own material and exercises shows her dedication and commitment, makes the lessons very easy to follow.
Her teaching style revolves around tutor-tutee interaction with the use of lively imagery and simple concepts. It has allowed me to not only practice the content but also improve my confidence with pronunciation.

Perfect! I’ve only had one lesson with Freddi so far, but I’m already so impressed! Her teaching style is the perfect mix of fun and professional. Perfect! Freddie was amazing, she worked through from a well made PowerPoint, taking care to ensure correct pronunciation and sentence structures for someone with zero understanding of Cantonese. She also personalised the lesson on the go for my circumstances and reasons for learning the language which was super helpful and felt much more engaging.

Perfect! Freddi has been teaching my kids an hour of Cantonese each week in person. She’s always prepared for each lesson using customised materials. Her lessons are engaging and gives kids fun homework that they enjoy doing. We also asked Freddi to do academic tutoring every week with our daughter.

Freddi is a brilliant tutor with a detailed, patient approach and a warm personality. Aside from her knowledge and teaching skills, Freddi's passion of teaching to pass on the spirit of the Cantonese language is very evident and motivating. I highly reccomend !
