  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

There are several reasons why I am fluent in French. One is that I lived in France for a few
years as a child, so I had early exposure to the language and culture. In addition, I still have
family in France with whom I speak regularly, thus maintaining my language skills.

Another important factor was my Erasmus semester in Paris, where I was able to practise the
language intensively and immerse myself in French culture.

However, I think my interest in the language was sparked early on as I had a great teacher at
school who introduced me to the beauty and importance of the French language. Her passion
for the language inspired and motivated me to develop and deepen my knowledge.

In summary, I can say that my fluency is based on a combination of factors, including my
background, my personal interest and the opportunity to deepen my knowledge through travel
    and study.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

For me, the person who best represents French culture is Simone de Beauvoir. She was an
important French philosopher, writer and feminist, known for her feminist ideas and her work
'The Second Sex'. Her work has made a significant contribution to French culture and society.

There is also a well-known actress who is highly respected in France and admired for her
courage and strength: Isabelle Huppert. She has starred in many French films and has become
internationally renowned. Her roles often portray strong and independent women, which fits
in well with French culture, which is known for its feminist ideas and the fight for equality.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

A typical behaviour that amuses me is the way the French often use gestures to communicate.
They use their hands and arms to emphasise their points and clarify their opinions.
Sometimes it can seem a bit exaggerated, but it's also a nice way of expressing emotions and
    making conversations livelier.

One tradition that impresses me is the importance of food and eating in French culture. There
is a long tradition of enjoying meals as a social event, spending time with family and friends,
enjoying good food and wine. Also, the way the French shop and choose food is often very
conscious and of high quality. Food is an important part of French culture and is valued
    accordingly.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

There are many reasons why learning French is important. Firstly, it opens doors to many
different careers, such as tourism, international organisations or diplomacy. It also gives you
the opportunity to live and work in French-speaking countries, which can be a valuable
intercultural experience. In addition, mastering a foreign language contributes to personal
enrichment by fostering an understanding of other cultures and perspectives and by
facilitating communication with people from different countries. Finally, French is one of the
official languages of the European Union, so knowledge of this language can also be useful in
    European affairs.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The French language has some peculiarities that can make it a little more difficult to learn.
For example, pronunciation, as many words are not pronounced the way they are written.
Grammar can also be complex, especially the conjugation of verbs and the formation of
    tenses.

There are also many exceptions and peculiarities in French that need to be remembered, such
as irregular verbs. Vocabulary can also be a challenge, as there are many similar words with
    different meanings.

Nevertheless, learning French is worthwhile, as the language is not only spoken in many
countries, but also plays an important role in the culture and history of Europe. French is also
an official language of the EU and the UN. Those who master the language not only gain
access to a rich cultural heritage, but also to international career opportunities.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I have a vivid memory of cycling from Istanbul to Antalya. It was a challenge I had set
myself to test my limits. The scenery was breath-taking, but so was the steep mountain I
faced. I battled my way up the mountain, but at some point, it became too much and I had to
get off and push the bike.
I struggled up the mountain for hours, and just as I was about to give up, I noticed a slight
incline that made it easier to continue. I thought to myself that this must be the top of the
mountain and I had finally arrived. But after only a few metres I realised that there was still
another stretch of mountain ahead of me.

I felt at the end of my tether when I was suddenly overtaken by a man cycling down the road.
He shouted to me: "Only 100 metres to go! I could hardly believe I was so close to the finish.
I gave it everything I had and finally reached the summit.

But the best was yet to come: An awe-inspiring 12km descent with an incredible view of the
sea. At that moment I knew that it had been worth fighting and never giving up.

This experience taught me that there are difficult challenges in life that we must overcome.
But if we put in the effort and never give up, we can experience the most sublime moments.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I'm happy to tell you more about my past travels and stays abroad. In Turkey, I was lucky
enough to take part in an intercultural exchange programme. During my stay, I was not only
able to improve my language skills, but also to experience Turkish culture at first hand and
    make new friends.

Another unforgettable experience was climbing Annapurna in Nepal. On this trip, I was not
only able to admire the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas, but also to learn about the
Nepalese culture and gain many unforgettable experiences.

Through my travels and stays abroad, I have been able to improve my language skills and
gain new perspectives on the world. It is a great enrichment for me to discover other cultures
    and gain intercultural experience.
