About David

I have a degree in Translation for German, English, and Spanish. This gives me a solid understanding of how and why language works the way it does. I started teaching English at university as a side job during an exchange semester in Columbia, and I got hooked. Later I travelled and lived abroad for many years and have been teaching full-time now for 9 years. Clients range from children to adults. skills from conversation to grammar.

I am interested in natural science, economics, and politics but also engineering and technical subjects.

The first step to learning is to realise what you don't know but want to understand. As your teacher, it is my job to help you achieve just that. Effective learning is like piecing together a puzzle. We start with what you know, making sure you are comfortable using it and all the while exploring unknown territories. Once we are getting unsure, we return to the safe zones of what we already know and prepare for the next attempt.

This is the underlying strategy. In practical terms, expect prepared and targeted materials. During our lesson I take notes, which I use to prepare the following class. Practiced skills depend very much on what you want to learn, but I try to make an interesting mix of different language subjects with real-life topics of interest to you.

Details

I charge 25 USD for 60 minutes. For this I provide personalized materials tailored to your level and learning aims, annotated worksheets that help you to repeat and study by yourself, and which help me to plan the next lesson and achieve learning progress. I do insist on a reasonably regular meeting schedule but also accept that sometimes meetings have to be canceled. If notified of a cancellation 24 hours before, cancellation is free. If the cancellation is less than 24 hours before, I may charge 50%, and for a no-show without prior notification, I charge 50%.
