About Neo
Hey all! I’m Neo, a native speaker of both Mandarin and Cantonese. Both are my mother tongue and I have been speaking them for 21 years, with 3+ years of teaching them to students of all ages. I’m also fluent in English, enabling me to easily guide students of all levels through crucial parts of the learning process using both Chinese and English to consolidate your understanding. So whether you’re a complete beginner or someone fairly confident in the language, I’ll help you get to where you want to be and beyond! I’m patient, outspoken, and encouraging, and take pride in helping students improve. As an engineering student, I am methodical with my teaching approach and can cater it to a way that best suits your learning aims. Always happy to discuss further about this!

Instead of memorising long vocabulary lists, I focus on conversational style teaching as it’s proved to be much more engaging and effective through my 3 years of tutoring Mandarin and Cantonese. This includes: - guiding you to form sentences and practise speaking - initiating conversations - giving feedback on the conversations to improve your: pronunciation, sentence structure, tones, etc. - setting practice tasks to continue improving in your own time between lessons As for students new to the language, don’t be discouraged! I’ll guide you through the fundamentals to pinyin, tones, and basic phrases to help build you a solid foundation with pronunciation before we dabble into simple conversations. I have a very patient style of teaching and I assure you we will find a way that works for you. Lesson durations range between 1 to 2 hours depending on abilities and preferences. All levels and ages are welcome, and I’m open to catering lesson structures and teaching styles to best suit your learning aims and abilities.
