About Shirley
Hello! I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker and a UCL MSc Economics graduate. Before becoming a tutor, I worked in the hedge fund industry for nearly ten years, where clear communication, professionalism and organisation were essential.
I have experience teaching beginner Chinese in one-to-one online lessons. I enjoy helping students feel relaxed and confident, especially when they are starting from zero. I understand that learning a new language can feel challenging, so I am patient, encouraging and happy to adapt lessons to your pace and goals.
Whether you are learning Mandarin for travel, family, work or personal interest, I will make sure our lessons are practical, enjoyable and tailored to you.

My online lessons are ideal for complete beginners and elementary learners who want to speak Mandarin with greater confidence.
I can help you with:
• Starting Mandarin from zero
• Everyday conversational Chinese and speaking practice
• Correcting pronunciation and tones
• Useful Chinese for travel, living abroad and real-life situations
Lessons are personalised to your goals and learning pace. We will use clear English explanations, practical vocabulary, role-play and plenty of speaking practice, so you can use Mandarin naturally in daily life.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes and are suitable for children, teenagers and adults. Whether you are learning for travel, family, work or personal interest, I will help make Chinese practical, enjoyable and less intimidating.
