About Maria Luís
My name is Maria Luís, but everyone calls me Mia (which means 'mine' in Italian). I love this name because it reminds me that I belong to myself and no one else – my life is mine to live.
I'm from Porto, and I'm in my final year of a degree in Languages and International Relations. Currently, I’m studying abroad in France.
I've been teaching languages for 3 years, and Portuguese for 2. I speak Portuguese (obviously, my native language), English, French, and Italian. Currently, I’m also studying Japanese and Russian, so trust me, I truly understand the process of learning a new language.
My dream is to become an artist – a screenwriter and a director. I have a deep love for writing, and I believe my purpose is to help change the world through art.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, spending time with friends, reading, or watching series. I’m not a fan of running or high-intensity physical activities; I move just enough to stay healthy and no more.
The way to my heart is with a good plate of pasta with cheese, while listening to a record by Léa Castro (my favorite singer).

These lessons are for anyone who wants to acquire or expand their knowledge of the Portuguese language or learn more about the culture associated with it. There's no minimum level required to start – the lessons will always be dynamic and tailored to the goals and interests of each student.
I'm passionate about exploring different cultures and learning new languages, and I love sharing my knowledge with others. I have been teaching Portuguese for two years and believe that the best approach is to create a plan based on each student's passions. What does that mean?
The study plan I have organized begins with learning everyday expressions, the alphabet, phonetics, as well as basic verb tenses and foundational vocabulary. We then move on to pronouns and pronominalization, followed by more complex verb tenses, and start exploring more advanced texts. Over time, the lessons will gradually shift focus from writing skills to oral skills, such as conversation and argumentation. However, a key aspect throughout all these learning stages is the integration of the students' personal goals and interests into the lessons. If a student enjoys music, for example, we’ll study the present tense using exercises that include vocabulary from their favorite artist or genre. If they enjoy traveling, we’ll study verbs and vocabulary by creating a travel itinerary through Portugal.
