About Emma
I hold a Master's of Teaching and multiple subjects credential from the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute. I have spent 5 years in the classroom, and I am fortunate to have experience teaching students from ages 5 to 14, though the bulk of my teaching experience has been with 5th and 6th graders.
I have experience supporting neurodivergent students (specifically ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and processing differences).
I have participated in professional development to learn strategies to support students with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. I have deep curiosity and interest in the uniqueness of every brain, and I practice and believe in neurodivergent affirming support and instruction.

I offer reading and writing support to students in grades 4th-8th. Because executive functioning and academic skills go hand-in-hand, I can also offer basic EF supports and instruction, like metacognitive reflection, time and materials organization, and self-regulation tools.
During my years in the classroom, I have been fortunate to partner with learning specialists, educational therapists, and neuropsychologists, from whom I learned deeply about the richly faceted minds of my neurodiverse students. I have also gained many strategies for serving those students well. I work hard to specialize my lessons for these students within a whole group setting, and I am free to do so even more effectively in a 1:1 tutoring context.
My teaching is first and foremost relational; children need a rapport of care and comfort to feel brave enough to take on challenges in their learning.
My lesson plans are tailored with my particular students in mind, taking into account how pacing, format, and content will need to be adjusted. My goal is always to suit a particular child's neuro-profile and interests as effectively as I can, creatively combining auditory, visual, and kinesthetic activities into literacy and writing instruction. For me as a teacher, joyful engagement is a goal in and of itself, and also provides a route to greater success in the desired skill areas for my students.
When you reach out, I'll send you an intake form and we'll do a quick consultation to make sure my skill set is a good fit for your student's needs.

Emma was my son’s 5th-grade teacher last year. I can’t speak highly enough of her—she has a passion for teaching and can relate to kids in a way that most adults are not able to. She is kind, patient, and makes learning fun. My son loved having her as a teacher!
I have observed Emma with dozens of students in the classrooms where she’s taught over the years, and could not recommend her more highly. She is an expert at connecting with children, learning what motivates them personally, and working with families to support her students. If she was my own child’s tutor or teacher, I would be very lucky.
Emma is one of the most wonderful tutors I’ve come across. Her empathy, kindness, and genuine love for children and learning is so palpable. She has helped my child gain so much confidence in the classroom, I cannot recommend her enough!
Emma is a caring, attentive, creative, and knowledgeable teacher! She forms strong relationships with students and is able to meet them where they are to help them grow in a personalized way. She is a skilled teacher and knowledgeable in helping readers and writers grow!
Emma brings a combination of warmth, playfulness, and rigor to her 1:1 work with students. I am a learning specialist, and have witnessed Emma's classroom work with 5th-8th grade students; her attention to each student's strengths and her patience and care in supporting their individual needs is exceptional. I heartily recommend Emma!
