About Alison

I’m a full-time, professional painter based in Los Angeles with over 15 years of experience supporting myself through my art. My work is represented by Kravets Wehby Gallery in New York and is held in museum and private collections internationally. I offer one-on-one consultations for artists at any stage of their practice- whether you’re looking for honest feedback on your work, guidance on how to approach galleries, help developing your artist statement or portfolio, or just a sounding board from someone who has navigated the art world professionally for a long time.
Sessions are over Zoom or in person in my Los Angeles studio. I bring the same directness and care to consultations that I bring to my own work.

Sessions are tailored entirely to what you need- there’s no fixed structure or curriculum. We might spend the whole time doing a deep dive critique of your current work, talking through how to approach galleries or art advisors, workshopping your artist statement, or just having a frank conversation about where you are in your practice and where you want to go. I follow your lead on what’s most useful. Most people find that even one session gives them a lot of clarity and momentum.

Details

Ideally we'd be able to work together for 2-3 hours at a time, especially for painting lessons. For example, in the beginning it can take half an hour to talk about colors and mix a palette together. Painting, especially realistic painting, is time-consuming, and I like to talk through and demonstrate every step and detail.  A 2-3 hour block gives us time to make a good amount of progress.
I teach in my studio in the Highland Park area of LA, or I can come to you. There may be a travel fee depending on how far away we are from each other.
