About Olivia
Olivia Leake is an oboist and passionate advocate for the music of historically excluded composers, with a strong focus on community engagement and arts accessibility. A native of Northern Virginia, she is committed to using music as a tool for connection, healing, and social change. Leake has performed as Principal Oboist and English Hornist with the DC Youth Orchestra and the Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestras. An active orchestral and chamber musician, she has been invited to play with ensembles such as the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and currently performs with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the University of Cincinnati College—Conservatory of Music (CCM), where she studies. A recent highlight includes performing Principal Oboe on Mahler's Second Symphony at CCM just one week after gallbladder removal surgery—a performance praised by the Cincinnati Classical for her “scintillating” solos. She is the recipient of a full scholarship to CCM, as well as numerous scholarship awards from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, including the Jennette Davis, Donna & Jean Creek, and Premiere Young Artist Scholarship Awards. Leake's performance experience also includes prestigious summer programs such as the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute, Hidden Valley Institute, Interlochen Summer Arts Academy, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Her chamber group won the CCM Chamber Music Competition performing Poulenc's Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano. She is also a former National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellow, the 2019 DC Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition winner, and appeared as a guest soloist at the National Endowment for the Arts Annual Meeting. Leake is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Oboe Performance at CCM under the guidance of Titus Underwood. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Linda Strommen. Previously, she trained with Jamie Roberts of the National Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her musical career, Leake is a Master of Social Work student at Boston University online. Her goal is to unite her passions for music and social justice by bringing the arts into underserved communities, advocating for equity, and addressing disparities both within and beyond the music world. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her cats, watching TV, exploring makeup, attending church, and online shopping.

As a conservatory-trained oboist and current Master’s student in both music performance and social work, I offer supportive, student-centered lessons that blend music skill-building with creativity, confidence, and joy. Whether you’re a complete beginner, preparing for auditions, or just exploring music for fun, I’ll tailor our lessons to your goals and learning style. I offer oboe instruction (including reed-making and ensemble coaching), basic music theory, and general musicianship.
My teaching style is encouraging and adaptive, I believe in creating a positive, inclusive space where students feel empowered to grow. I’ve taught in public schools, mentored young musicians, and led workshops on both technique and expression. I welcome students of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels!
