About Scott
When I first started learning French, it was difficult. I struggled during my first year and didn’t naturally “get it” right away. But something about the language fascinated me, so I stuck with it.
The summer after French 2, I bought teacher guides, worksheets, and practice books and completely relearned everything on my own. That changed everything. I became the top student in French 3, continued into AP French, and earned a 5 on the exam.
Then I moved to Paris for a gap year and had another humbling moment. I could read and write well, but real spoken French felt fast and overwhelming at first. It took months of daily immersion before I truly felt fluent. That experience completely shaped how I teach.
I understand both sides of learning French: the grammar-heavy classroom side and the real-life conversational side, and I combine both into my teaching. My goal is to help you build strong foundations with vocabulary and grammar while also helping you feel confident in speaking.
The French language and culture have become a huge part of my life. I’ve lived and studied in Paris twice, returned multiple times for visits, and continue to immerse myself daily in French by watching my favorite French TV show (Demain nous appartient), listening to French music, watching French YouTubers and content creators, and catching up with French friends on the phone.
I want to help you have the same feeling I did while learning French, where the language clicks for you and it becomes part of your everyday.

My teaching combines strong grammar foundations with real, living French. I believe students should understand how French is actually spoken today.
I use authentic materials like clips from Demain nous appartient, French YouTubers, and music to train listening skills, pronunciation, and modern vocabulary. I’ve built a personal repository of categorized clips that target specific grammar points and themes, so we practice structures in real context.
I also have an extensive collection of ready-made worksheets, exercises, quizzes, and practice materials (built over years of preparing to become a French teacher), so we can work through structured exercises together until it truly clicks.
A lesson usually includes:
- Review and guided grammar practice
- Applied exercises (fill-ins, transformations, conversation prompts)
- Listening practice using authentic clips
- Speaking time focused on natural expression
- Vocabulary expansion (including modern and colloquial French)
For conversational students, we can focus heavily on real-life dialogue, slang, and sounding like a native speaker.
What sets me apart is how much the French language and culture are a major part of my life. I’ve lived in Paris for several months (gap year + study abroad), taken B2 and C1 certified classes at Les Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne, returned for extended stays, and maintain close friendships in France. I immerse myself daily in French media and culture.
I’m often told my pronunciation and fluency sound near-native, and I’m deeply passionate about helping students experience that same breakthrough moment and thinking, speaking, and maybe one day, living in another language.
