About Alba
Coming from a background of intensive biology study profile in high school and graduating with Zoology from St Andrews University, I have now also been tutoring biology myself for several years. I've had many recurring students with great progress and end-of-year success. I have however done majority of my work through a different platform.
I graduated the National High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sofia/Bulgaria with an equivalent of A* in the UK system and achieved 100/100 points on my State Matriculation Examination in Biology and Health Education. As a participant in Olympiad competitions, my biology studies for all years have been beyond the country’s curriculum. After revisiting all material in English for university, I started tutoring and built experience with all UK examination boards across GCSE, iGCSE, A level and IB.
I'm currently focusing just on AS and A-level material, and only accepting a few students or tutoring in a group class, due to a more busy schedule.
I've also done quite a lot of university project help and very much welcome such requests (that is strictly support, counseling and proof reading), including dissertation work and projects outside of my main biology background, such as in Chemistry and Psychology.
Why I'm tutoring...?
Although I did have an amazing teacher in biology, a significant part of my preparation was with the help of higher-year students leading seminars or courses. This got me motivated to also share my knowledge as I think students tend to create a better connection with other students than with their school teachers and especially in a smaller group where the tutor also gets to know their students better.
I built some beginner experience in my own high school and early university years and now having several years of professional tutoring experience I believe I have truly discovered a passion. I am highly dedicated to providing personalized assistance to any student that might be struggling with the subject at school, is home schooled, is aiming for higher achievements or any other.

Style of teaching always ends up adapting to different students and their needs. It would take a very different shape depending on whether the aim is full curriculum cover, speed revision of most problematic material, or practice of exam papers.
What I always do is provide my own revision notes compiled specifically by examination boards. I encourage students to participate with own note-taking, either along what I provide or in their own style building up from school, but the material I provide can be shared for you to keep either way. I am personally a very visual learner and so aim to select the best presented plots, graphs, diagrams and drawings (as well as draw out myself) that best revise the material in summarized but comprehensive manner. Aside of just teaching the material, I give students a lot of revision and exam technique pointers. This can be a big focus on lessons since struggling with exam-style questions and work under stress is a very common shared problem among students, who otherwise might know majority of the material. For exam style question practice I mostly work with Save My Exams and Physics & Maths Tutor.

Alba was my biology tutor for around 4 years! She’s a really kind and methodical person, going through questions and topics with a tried and tested strategy and explaining practice questions with ease.
