About Liam
I am a second-year PhD chemistry student at the University of Strathclyde, having recently achieved a first-class honours in my master's degree studying chemistry with drug discovery at the university. In my fourth year of my five-year master's degree, I completed my placement working for GSK, a major pharmaceutical company, where I have learned a lot about the industry and how chemistry is applied hands-on. Throughout my degree, I have covered the three main aspects of chemistry, these being organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, while also doing modules in chemical biology, being able to link the two subjects. In my first, second, third and fourth years of university, I passed with distinction, gaining an average of 70% or above in my modules. On top of this, in second year, I also achieved the Dean's award for academic excellence, getting an average grade over 80% in my modules. I myself have sat the new national High School qualifications and know where most students, including myself, could slip up and lose marks. I can give tips and advice to simplify aspects of the course in the aim to achieve a higher grade amongst the disruption the coronavirus pandemic has caused. In the last academic session, the pupil I tutored in advanced higher chemistry achieved an A in his exam. Lessons will be offered within my home, online or I can travel to your home for a small fee to cover travel expenses.

My teaching method is very much hands-on with me first teaching the theory around the topic in an easy and legible manner and then moving onto example questions. I believe the best way to teach is to do examples, making sure my pupil has a good understanding of how to read what the question is asking, often where students struggle. At the end of the lesson, I would assign a series of past exam questions based on the day's lesson to be attempted for the next lesson to assess their grasp of the topic. When getting closer to the preliminary and main exams, I will focus on exam-style questions and past papers, assigning past paper questions on a range of topics to be completed for the next lesson. I believe to succeed well in these exams, repetition is key to build not only knowledge but exam confidence, which is vital.
