About Stef
I am a veteran teacher in Ontario, with 15 years of teaching experience in elementary classrooms. Since 2014, I have specialised in teaching students with reading difficulties using a phonics-based approach.
I am Orton-Gillingham trained and use the principles espoused in the Science of Reading to inform my teaching practice.
I am available for tutoring online or in-person.

Sometimes reading feels impossible for a child, and that feeling can be devastating on their self-esteem and emotional well-being. Fortunately, by learning the fundamentals of English phonics, students are able to catch up to their peers and develop a sense of resiliency, pride, and ideally learn to love reading.
My lessons work to establish the foundational base for reading and writing by exploring each phoneme through a multisensory lens. This means that each lesson, students have the opportunity to read, write, and listen to the phoneme being studied. This approach allows for the neural pathways to form new connections that support the student while reading and writing.
Each session will involve a review of the phonemes mastered, targeted skill practice, the introduction of a new phoneme, and reinforcement activities. Support Work is provided for at-home reinforcement on a weekly basis.
Collaboration between caregivers and educators is important, and I love to collaborate with you to support the student’s educational growth. Student Reports are provided to caregivers once a week, but please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns or feedback. An open-line of communication is key to student well-being.
