About Jake
I love teaching enthusiastic students about the joy of music and have taught piano students in English and in French. I have been playing and studying music extensively for 17 years, working with material across a multitude of genres. My specialties are piano technique and performance, music theory and ear training, and songwriting.
I've been incredibly fortunate to have studied music with jazz luminaries such as Benny Green, Christian McBride, Bill Cunliffe, Stefon Harris, Bruce Barth, Helen Sung, and Rodney Jones. Currently, I perform regularly in New York City, playing jazz, pop, and alternative rock in groups around Manhattan and Brooklyn. I have a background in European classical music and also have experience writing scores of music for films.
I teach students at all levels as young as six years old to adults. We can work on making music that will leave you feeling accomplished and excited to learn more. All in all, I'm here to help you have fun developing a skill that you can keep forever and will make you proud and happy for yourself!

My piano and songwriting lessons are all about having fun! If there is a song you've always wanted to know how to play or you just want to start making music, I'd love to teach you.
I'm available for 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons online or in-person if you're in New York City. Our first lesson is free!

Intermediate: reading music from a page, music theory, playing fun songs in a genre you like, making up your own music
Advanced: challenging music theory, advanced scales, composition techniques, learning music by ear, improvising
