About Allen
Over the years, I’ve learned that technical ability alone is not enough. A student’s mindset and relationship with the instrument are just as important.
My teaching philosophy is centered around patience, consistency, and helping students genuinely enjoy the process of learning cello. I believe that progress happens best when students don’t feel rushed or pressured, but instead feel supported and encouraged at every step. My goal is to make sure the cello never feels like a chore or obligation, but something creative, expressive, and rewarding.
I work to build a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and developing at their own pace. Whether I’m working with a young beginner or a serious student preparing for auditions, I focus on keeping music enjoyable while still building strong discipline and technique.
Ultimately, I want my students to leave lessons feeling motivated, confident, and connected to the music they are playing.

As a professional cellist with 21 years of experience, my goal is to help students build strong technical foundations while also developing confidence, musicality, and enjoyment in playing the cello. I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to the individual’s goals, experience level, and learning style.
My teaching approach focuses on posture, tone production, intonation, rhythm, bow technique, and expressive playing. I also emphasize effective practice habits so students can continue improving outside of lessons. For beginners and younger students, I prioritize building strong fundamentals in a supportive, patient, and encouraging environment. I enjoy helping children learn from the very beginning and guiding them step by step through their musical development.
For more advanced and serious students, I provide focused instruction in technique, musical interpretation, audition preparation, and performance confidence. I also help students prepare for music school, conservatory, and university auditions with structured and goal-oriented training.
A typical lesson may include scales and warmups, technical exercises, repertoire work, sight reading, and musicianship training. I strive to keep lessons engaging, structured, and motivating while ensuring students progress at a pace that works best for them.
What sets me apart is my extensive real-world performing experience as a professional musician. In addition to teaching, I actively perform in concerts, weddings, and professional ensembles, allowing me to share practical musical knowledge and performance insight with my students.
Lessons are open to children, teens, and adults of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players looking to further develop their skills.
