About Uila
Hi, my name's Uila and I'm excited to meet you! I'm a firm believer that if you can move, you can dance. Movement is meant for everyone, all body types, ages, abilities and personalities. As my student, I'll work with you to develop personal goals and a clear training plan for what you hope to accomplish, whether you're taking your first ever class or honing your professional talents. My own dance lineage begins with traditional hula, then classical ballet, modern dance (Graham, Cunningham and Horton techniques), contemporary, improvisation, floorwork, and contact improvisation. I've had the honor of training with many renowned teachers across New York City, and have worked with numerous choreographers in New York and Europe. As a young dancer, I moved to New York to pursue a BA in Dance from Columbia University, and now teach dance professionally at the middle, high school and adult levels. Currently I'm on faculty at Peridance and Gibney Dance in Manhattan.

My approach to dance education centers student autonomy, creative thinking, choice-making, and whole body health. A typical lesson will be 1 hour, include a thorough warm-up, level-appropriate exercises, learning choreography, and thoughtful feedback. You can expect a kind, communicative approach to teaching that centers your knowledge and experience, while challenging you to take risks and become more confident.
