About Alison
Hi! I'm a full-time, professional painter, represented by a gallery in New York. I've been painting for a living since 2012, and have taught oil painting, acrylic painting, drawing, and figure drawing at UCLA Extension for 3 years. I'm very encouraging and chill as a teacher. I have a high level of technical knowledge and skill, as well as experience helping students with conceptual aspects of art.

My specialty is realistic figure painting and drawing, using classical techniques. I teach any style and any subject matter that my students want to focus on. If you have something specific you'd like to learn how to draw or paint that's awesome, or I can create lessons / give you options to choose from. I love working with people to create artist portfolios for applying to schools. I have taught complete beginners, as well as experienced artists who want some guidance on particular aspects of their work. I love to teach in person~ if you're in the LA area we could work together in my studio on the east side, or I could come to you. I've also taught over Zoom!

Details
Ideally we'd be able to work together for 2-3 hours at a time, especially for painting lessons. For example, in the beginning it can take half an hour to talk about colors and mix a palette together. Painting, especially realistic painting, is time-consuming, and I like to talk through and demonstrate every step and detail. A 2-3 hour block gives us time to make a good amount of progress.
I teach in my studio in the Highland Park area of LA, or I can come to you. There may be a travel fee depending on how far away we are from each other.
