About Shaun
I am an extremely patient, flexible, friendly and understanding teacher and I am always willing to go the extra mile for all of the children and young people that I have worked with.
My main qualities I would consider apart from the depth of knowledge I have would be enthusiasm for my subject, an outgoing and motivational approach and flexibility. I specialise in A level.
I can also demonstrate in many cases from first hand experience, the importance and challenges of cutting edge scientific research.
I appreciate the different pressures young people are under, whether they be from school, community, friends or parents! I have considerable understanding of all of the social, cultural and economic factors that my distort the way that young people may affect their decision making.
I am a very flexible person and I feel that I quickly develop excellent relationships with children and adults of all abilities and ages.
I basically love working with young people and love my subject, which is crucial.
I have taught in university up to second year degree level whilst a postgraduate, from 1996-2000.
I specialised in Climate Change and Cold Climate Geomorphology, however, I also taught Social Geography up to second year BSc (Hons)students, being both a Physical and Human Geographer!

I have worked in secondary settings and Sixth Form Colleges for many years.
During the last fifteen years I can truly claim to have worked very effectively with the entire range of all young people from those struggling with literacy to postgraduates.
I am a member of the Geographical Association, Quaternary Research Association, the British Geomorphological Research Group and a Fellow of the the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers.
From 1997-2003 I was a UK member of INQUA `INTIMATE` (Integration of Ice, Marine and Terrestrial Records) a Palaeoclimate Subcommittee, which involved an international community of scientists working together to synthesise the records of the Last Termination from initially the North Atlantic region.
This encouraged global collaboration between members of the ice-core, marine and terrestrial research ˜communities, in order to synthesise the large number of high-resolution stratigraphical records of the Last Termination that are now available from the North Atlantic region, to develop a global high precision geochronology of climate change.
I have practical fieldwork experience in both temperate and remote polar locations; particularly in Greenland, Iceland, Canada and Scotland, whilst I have taught in excellent university departments, with five-star RAE research ratings. Therefore, I have a vast experience in a range of associated interdisciplinary and specific skills linked to educational work with young people including those with specific additional needs.
On the scientific front, I am rather uniquely qualified to Master of Science (MSc) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) levels in past climates (palaeoclimatology) and present climatology and future projections of climate change (climate change dynamics) with associated environmental sustainability, green technology and policy (environmental sustainability and green technology).
I have worked in a number of environmental and scientific industries involved in solution mining, chemicals and their environmental monitoring, management, protection and recently in sustainability initiatives. During my time in research, I represented universities as a regional and UK delegate on several national and international fora including being a UK delegate to several international climate and palaeoclimate research associations such as INQUA.

Hobbies and Interests:--
I am interested in several educational issues, specifically environmental and climate science communication, special educational needs relating to those on the autistic spectrum, travel (specifically to the High Arctic, Eastern Europe and New Zealand) and green technology and sustainability initiatives. I have long-standing, keen interests in polar regions, specifically the High Arctic; sea level change, astronomy, climatology, current affairs, local ecology and history, cricket, football and music. I represented my local area on the Parish Council (1989 -2011) and was also an active member of the East Warrington Area Partnership Board.
