About Mia
I am a New Zealander who has moved to the UK to explore and expand on my favourite pastime: writing! I have deferred my law degree til 2026 and am now dedicating my time to travelling and creating new stories and poems. I specialise in poetry and flash fiction, but also enjoy writing news articles and persuasive pieces.
I have won multiple awards for public speaking, and have been invited to give inspirational speeches at conferences, school events, panels and protests.
My writing has been recognised as influential and of high quality. I worked as a columnist for a year at New Zealand's leading news platform, Stuff, writing about climate and sustainability issues. My poems have featured in 'Write On', a regional poetry magazine in Christchurch. I received first place in the 2019 Seaweek Poetry Competition amongst 200 entries. I have also had essays published in collations and textbooks, including Bronwyn Hayward's 'Children, Citizenship and the Environment: Volume 2' in 2021.
Apart from writing, I enjoy painting, reading, cooking and rock climbing. I have a passion for wellbeing and creativity, which I always implement in my interactions with students.

My lessons aren't about being the best at creative writing; they're about being your best person. I love to encourage students to express their creativity, imagine new worlds, and put themselves in the shoes of others. Through their writing, children learn empathy and problem solving, as well as honing their spelling and grammar skills.
My lessons can be adapted for any age, and I encourage you to consider creative writing no matter where you are in life! Lessons are adaptable and unique, but usually follow a routine where students are given a prompt and write their own work. Once we have read the piece together and I have given feedback, it is encouraged for students to spend some time over the week redrafting their pieces to present them back at the following lesson.
Lessons can be one-on-one or in a group to build public speaking skills. In-person lessons can be delivered on request and with prior arrangement.
