About Joseph
I am a graphic designer who draws gag cartoons and humorous illustrations. My clients include businesses needing original gag cartoons for marketing and authors who want cartoons to illustrate their books. I also have 30 years experience teaching art, design, writing, and cartooning.
I am currently an adjunct instructor for a local community college where I teach workshops in pen and ink, pastels, colored pencils, and gag cartooning. I also teach workshops on digital painting with Photoshop and other software.

I do not teach how to draw cartoons. I teach how to create them. Through drawing and writing exercises, you will gain the skills needed to create a funny cartoon and learn how to "think" like a graphic humorist.
I approach the subject by teaching the basics of cartoon construction. I am not interested in teaching people to draw like me, but to draw like themselves.
While I do believe in drawing exercises, I incorporate gag writing into them. I want students to learn how to think like a cartoonist as well as draw like one. I also believe in exposing students to examples of some of the best cartoonists.
