About Tyson
Currently an Assistant Head Teacher at local school in London. Have taught EYFS, KS1 and KS2 in Primary School, as well as English & History in Secondary School. Taught both in the UK and Australia. Been through 3 different OFSTED inspections and achieved an 'Outstanding' grading in all of them. I have studied a Bachelor of Education (Primary & Secondary) in Australia, and since graduating in 2014, I moved to the UK to get an understanding of the British Education system, as both the pedagogy and curriculum aspects are almost identical to that of Australia. Having worked a range of schools both in and out of the classroom, as well as extensive tutoring experience (to both Primary and Secondary aged pupils), I have worked hard to ensure I am able to use my experience of being in the classroom to be able to guide and mentor children in achieving their best in all subjects of learning. During previous tutoring sessions, I tend to try and get an understanding of what is being covered in the classroom for the child (to avoid any confusion). This enables cohesion between school and home learning, and identify strategies in which the child can take from tutoring sessions and place them in the classroom. Through cumulative and formative assessment, I am able to identify areas that need work, and will then be able to plan and resource extensive tutoring sessions, to ensure the child is able to make progress in the given area. I am able to adapt curriculum based on the needs of the pupil, and ensure many different learning styles and techniques are catered for. Big focus on Knowledge based curriculum (strong requirement in the latest OFSTED framework), as well as in depth questioning, to ensure that a pupil is able to achieve a mastery level of understanding within a topic. Having a strong Primary background, I have experience in preparing pupils for SATS (both KS1 and KS2), as well as the National Phonics Screening Test for Year 1. Assessments aside, I have been able to adapt curriculum and learning to meet the needs of pupils from a wide range of backgrounds including SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities), and EAL (English as an Additional Language). I have resources and tools to ensure these pupils are able to be supported on a 1:1 or small group level, to ensure they are able to make accelerated progress in all areas of learning. In my current role, I have more of an ‘out of class’ based role, playing a role in day-to-day running of a primary school, and training both Student Teachers and Newly Qualified Teachers. I have chosen to do more tutoring, as my main passion is supporting children every day to achieve the best they can and them the means to achieve the best they can.
