About Nina
I qualified as a teacher by studying for my PGDE with the educational charity, Teach First. This was an incredibly intensive two year course, whereby I worked as a full time teacher in a secondary school alongside completing my studies. This approach enabled me to become a reflective practitioner, whilst training under the most up-to-date research and expertise. The lead examiner for AQA's English Literature led my course, affording me invaluable inside knowledge into the examination process. Although I am a fully qualified English teacher, my degree was initially in Philosophy and Psychology. I graduated with a First Class Honours with Distinction from McGill University (in Montreal, Canada). My practice is therefore grounded not only in English specific knowledge and skills, but in critical thinking and with an appreciation of human motivation and cognition. My teaching is therefore holistically informed and unique in its foundations. I thoroughly enjoy teaching English and Maths to all ages. As they are such foundational skills, their importance cannot be overstated: English enables people to share and experience others' worldviews, as well as crafting the ability to articulate one's own. Maths is everywhere, and can be understood as the language of nature itself. Appreciating numerical patterns offers one another way of understanding the world around us. My passion for these subjects ensures that our sessions are equally informative and enjoyable.

I am a qualified English Secondary teacher (Qualified Teacher Status achieved with 'Outstanding') and a First Class Honours with Distinction graduate. I'm extremely passionate about my specialist subject areas as well as knowledgeable regarding the learning process itself. Although I've trained in the Secondary Curriculum, this knowledge is excellent in understanding how to build solid foundations in Primary school. Part of learning to be a Secondary teacher involved hands-on experience in Primary schools, so I understand the progression of the Key Stages throughout a child's education. I tutor many KS1 students, in both English and Maths, and have a wealth of age-appropriate resources to make the learning both meaningful and fun.
