About Sophie
I love English and I love to teach, and I generally find that those I teach end up loving English too. I'm not a teacher who believes in the 'tick box' approach to learning for exams. I want my pupils to have fun whilst they learn and develop a real love for the subject.
I fell in love with English at school and went to University to study Classical Literature. After a few years abroad teaching English as a foreign language, I returned to England and completed my teacher training with TeachFirst. As a fully qualified English teacher, I now have 7 years experience in the classroom, including GCSE exam marking.

My goal is to make English fun, whilst developing key skills that help my students reach their highest potential in exams. This means lots of visual learning, lots of discussion and questioning, written practice and helpful feedback that will allow pupils to use high level reading and analysis skills. The English curriculum wants pupils to be able to look deeply in to the semantics of a text, both revised and unseen and write creatively. My teaching engages students with a wide variety of texts and interesting resources to help them hone their reading and writing skills. Lessons are typically an hour and will all include some writing and feedback in that time. I tutor KS3 pupils and KS4, readying them for GCSEs.
