About Barry
I have been writing and performing since the mid-sixties. I have been in groups and bands and toured the US and Canada for many years. I know music theory and play quite a number of instruments. I produce, arrange, compose, engineer, orchestrate, and master musical compositions including my own. My songwriting mentor was Jack Segal who wrote song classics including Scarlet Ribbons and When Sunny Gets Blue. He was instrumental in teaching correct songwriting techniques.

Writing lyrics is different from poetry or creative writing. In addition to telling a story, you must engage the listener immediately capturing their attention and do this while rhyming sentences. The chorus section is a repetitive phrase which brings together the concept of the song and the verses should tell the story. I teach using phrasings that say more with less words. I will show you how to bring the parts all together into a realistic impactful event. A good lyricist writes .... writes .... rewrites..... rewrites until all feels right. This is for beginners, intermediates and semi-professionals.
