About Eloisa

Have a Master's Degree in Education and a Master's in teaching Spanish. I have been teaching Spanish to Secondary schools, adults, and University students for the last 12 years. Now I am working online focusing on the Secondary school curriculum. I am also working for the Dept. Education creating materials for Secondary School teachers. I follow a communicative, student-centered approach, hence my students are always motivated and practice their Spanish from day one. I believe that being in contact with the language and the use of it is essential in learning, hence homework and constant revision of what is studied is necessary.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I am a native Spanish teacher from the north of Spain. Additionally, I am a professional qualified native speaker with a Master in Education and a Master in Spanish.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic

As it is mentioned in the Leaving Cert Oral Spanish Exam (role play 3) Cervantes is a historical writer that many of us know. He wrote Don Quijote the la Mancha, a classic in the Spanish Literature. I love the Colombian Novelist Gabriel Garcia Maquez too.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I am fed up: “Estoy hasta las narices”. I also love the Balearic Island Festival in Menorca in June “St Joan” when Menorquin horses dance in the street. Spectacular!
I also like the expressivity of the language, the body language used to communicate.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It my mother language and I love teaching it to students. It is my job and it is gratifying to see how pupils improve and are also motivated when I teach them. It is a language spoken in many place in the world for those who want to travel to South-America
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Grammar is more complex than the Ingles language. Also getting used to the different accents is a problem. Getting good at these, it is a questions of being exposed to the language and keeping it active when living abroad.
Ideally visiting Spain a lot and mixing with the locals, is a very effective way to educate your ear to the language’s phonetics and syntaxis.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school

I always liked to learn language and my own language was also interesting. Before I studied to be a Spanish teacher I already knew about grammar because in Spanish Studies we learned the name of the language components, syntaxis and phonetics. This doesn't happens in Ireland for example. They don't study what is an article of direct object which I did in my childhood.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

One of the most important think I learned from travelling is the exposure to different accents and expressions. This is important when teaching Spanish as there are 21 countries in the world that speak Spanish with their respective idiosyncrasies and accents.
This allows you, as a teacher, to answer questions many time asked by students who are intending to travel to South-America.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me good as a teacher is that I understand student’s needs and adapt to these needs.
My students speak the language from the first day as I believe that using the language is essential in the acquisition.
Additionally I am a qualified efficient teacher and I know how students can develop and improve all language learning skills, the problem they might finds in doing this, and how to help to solve any learning difficulties.
I am also sociable, flexible, lively and a creative teacher and my students will never be bored at my classes.
Most of my students final examination’s results are normally A1. This is a great achievement!!!
