About Karen
As discussed in other sections of this bio, I have much experience teaching in a wide variety of situations. I have just completed around 33 years working in 16-18 and adult education because I am committed to great outcomes for learners of all ages. I am also setting up as a learning provider myself, so I have gained a deeper understanding of education from many different angles - not just teaching and learning but progression, safeguarding and inclusive practice, which have always been important to me as an educator. I can offer students commitment and consistency in an inclusive and welcoming session.

I am known as a very approachable tutor. With my vast experience, I am also quite flexible about what I teach and how I deliver it. I like to offer sessions that support the learning needs of my students. I have taught mainly post-16/adults and mainly at Levels 3, 4 & 5. I have a PGCE and BSc and MSc in Psychology. I am qualified as a Fellow of the HEA. Online I have mostly taught lessons that are an hour in length; however, I can adjust this to the needs of the student. Most online tutoring I have already done has been either revision of topic areas, understanding of topic areas, or past paper practice. I can offer any combination of these or alternatives as needed. I teach at the pace of the student and encourage them to tell me what helps them to learn best. I have excellent reviews from former students.
A summary of my main subjects is below:
A Level psychology - former head of department, taught AQA for 13 years, now offer one-to-one support online. Mainly for Edexcel and AQA, but I have also supported students doing OCR and international qualifications.
A level Sociology - taught in classrooms for around 5 years and supported students taking the AQ A level online.
Access to HE in Social Sciences - have been an IQA for this and have been developing courses for my own provision.
Degrees - course tutor for a Foundation Degree in Children's and Young People's Services (collaboration with Wolverhampton University). Course tutor for FD in Education (collaboration with University of Staffordshire). I have supported students for BSc Psychology online.
Health and Social Care/Early Years - worked in two FE colleges delivering these courses (Btec, CACHE). I have supported students online with these qualifications.
Counselling - I have taught theory as part of a team delivering NCFE, Btec and SEG awards Levels 2 - 5
