About Inbo
Inbo Shim is a dedicated saxophonist and music educator committed to helping students become the best version of themselves. He strives to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students develop critical thinking skills, confidence, and the ability to communicate their stories and emotions through music. Inbo has built a strong foundation in both performance and pedagogy through his work as a saxophone lesson instructor with the Leander Independent School District at Stiles Middle School, as well as through teaching saxophone and clarinet lessons at the Lord’s Church of Austin.
As a performer, Inbo is a founding member and baritone saxophonist of the saxophone quartet 4116. The ensemble has garnered national recognition, earning the Silver Medal at the 2026 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Honorable Mention at the 2025 Plowman Chamber Music Competition, and semifinalist placements in both the 2025 Coltman Chamber Music Competition and the 2026 North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition. As a soloist, Inbo received Honorable Mention at the 2025 MTNA Young Artist State Competition, was a semifinalist in the 2024 Young Texas Artists Competition, and won the 2025 Medici International Music Competition. His accomplishments also led to an invitation to represent Korea at the prestigious 2025 Andorra Sax Fest Competition.
Inbo has participated in numerous international music festivals and academies, including the Université Européenne de Saxophone, Hamamatsu International Wind Instrument Academy and Festival, Snow Pond Music Festival, American Saxophone Academy, and Great Plains Saxophone Workshop. Through these experiences, he has performed in masterclasses with renowned artists including Claude Delangle, Nobuya Sugawa, John Sampen, Otis Murphy, Christopher Creviston, and John Nichol.
Inbo earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied saxophone under Stephen Page. In fall 2026, he will begin pursuing a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance and Pedagogy at University of Colorado Boulder under the mentorship of Nathan Mertens.
Outside of music, Inbo enjoys exploring local coffee shops, watching soccer, and playing pickleball.

My lesson plans vary from student to student, but here is my typical lesson plan:
-Focusing on fundamentals of saxophone playing (Embouchure building, Mouthpiece pitches, Long Tones, Overtones, Posture, Breathing, etc.)
-Focusing on Techniques (Scales, etudes, technique exercises, etc.)
-Repertoire (it could be any music such as pop songs, classical, contemporary, etc.)
Students will also have the benefit of learning self-discipline, build confidence, increase problem-solving skills, and to enjoy making music.
The lessons are for any age level who are interested in learning/improve playing the saxophone
