About Janine
Hi all, I'm Janine. I am passionate about encouraging learners of all ages to reach their goals.
Outside of teaching I love learning languages. I am conversationally fluent in Maōri and French and I am currently learning Japanese, Spanish, Welsh, and Dutch. I also love hiking, travelling and gardening.
I'd love to work alongside you to achieve your goals. I will help you to break down your motivational barriers, build up your self-confidence in learning and I will be a patient teacher, willing to listen.
I completed a BSc majoring in Food Science and Nutrition and I have a strong understanding of medical terminology from my university study, so if you want support with medical writing in English, send me a message.
I have a special passion for supporting learners who think a bit differently and I have worked with young students who are on the ASD spectrum and/or have ADHD. I have researched and implemented many different teaching techniques to improve the acquisition (gaining) and retention (maintaining) of English language skills for these students.

I have 5 years of teaching experience, and I am TEFL qualified. I recommend multiple half hour lessons per week so you can maximise your language retention. My classes focus on identifying your language difficulties using relaxed conversation, guided reading, and language exercises, and then focusing on those areas until you are comfortable with the target language.
A typical session will include reading, writing, speaking and listening to help you improve your confidence and ability. I will check your understanding of the material and you are welcome to ask me questions at any time.
I aim to build your speaking confidence at the same time by focusing on "speech first" lessons, which includes the practice of reading aloud.
I like to think of learning a language like solving a puzzle, each new thing you learn helps you learn more, and can support other words and grammar that you have learned in the past.
